We love and look forward to the Oscars every year for the beauty, the gowns, the celeb interviews on the red carpet, and obviously the awards. The only problem we have (other than long, drawn-out acceptance speeches) are when our favorite actors and movies don’t win. Really, it’s sometimes as if the Academy chooses films with little to no basis sometimes, or even deliberately picks the little-known indie movie no one’s even heard of before. On the other hand, we have the People’s Choice Awards, which we watched last night. These winners are tabulated by online votes. Many of our faves were awarded statues like “The Dark Night,” “WALL-E,” and Tina Fey, but how was the “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull” nominated for best picture? We actually feel insulted that they’ve underestimated us as movie-goers. Also how is “Favorite Female Movie Star” different from “Favorite Leading Lady” really? The categories leave much to be desired.
As with any award show, we felt our attention waning about an hour into the People’s Choice Awards. Some things may never change.
